is it only me?
Magnum Blog “Access denied”
it looks like that somebody did not like my question
“”good work, but I just dont understand what Larry Towell´s Mennonite picture has to do with death penalty?”"
at Crime & Punishment at Magnum in Motion
two days ago I looked if somebody wrote me an answer, my comment was gone, I did not find it anymore, I wanted to ask where my comment is, but it was not possible to write, I got a error, something like “your not allowed to post here”. also I got any answer to the emails I sent.
censorship at the magnum blog?

That’s weird, I know there was moderating, comments have to be approved, but deleting one already there and denying access? And because of a comment like yours? Strange. Would be a shame if it was true.
-
Hmmm.. seems the whole blogpost has disappeared, Stefan, so no, it’s not only you. Wonder what happened, could imagine that with a controversial subject like this comments were differing, but that’s normal I think. Shame somebody felt the need to delete.
-
Ok, it’s definitely not you, the whole essay has disappeared…
-
still, very strange to me.

They took the whole essay offline http://inmotion.magnumphotos.com/search/node/Search+Essays
They realised that the pic really has nothing to do with death penalty. But just turning off and not answering is not ok.
If you start deleting without telling/apologize, you dont have to wonder that no one writes anymore…this is a matter of politness, you usually learn that at the kitchens table….or never.

I don’t think that taking off the essay has anything to do with Stefan’s question, for the little I read from the comments it was very controverse, but such a subject matter is bound to be so, one should know that right from the start. Not letting people express themselves, to me, is wrong, once you have posted the essay and the blogentry..
To me, Towell’s picture in teh essay made sense. Religion has a lot to do with crime and punishment, esp. the latter…

Dear all,
Stefan e-mailed me about this a couple of days ago. I replied to explain but haven’t heard back from him.
So let me explain here instead: This has absolutely nothing to do with censorship. The Magnum Blog is not, was not and will never be censored. If you look through comments you will see that we get positive as well as negative feedback, but negative feedback is as much appreciated as positive feedback.
The essay was taken offline for internal reasons but that had nothing to do with any comments that were made. We did also get positive comments about this by the way.
And as we did not want to keep a dead link to an essay on the blog that is not existing anymore we decided to remove the whole blog post. That’s about it. So no censorship there.Best regards,
Martin Fuchs

I didnt get any email. regards Stefan

As the whole blog post was taken offline every comment for that blog post is offline as well of course. Just as on your blog, comments are always associated with a certain post. So if you’d take this post offline, comments that were made to this post would be offline as well. Where would you otherwise be able to read them?
And your comment was published until the blog post was taken offline…
