Welcome to the beta issue of 100eyes, a new web publication aimed at bringing compelling photography to the web, covering a wide range of issues and photographic styles. My aim with 100eyes is to eventually have the magazine edited by photographers and picture editors who are committed to the work they present, in many cases, alongside their own.
The current beta called Dis’ and Dat, and will allow me to present great imagery and still tinker with the organization and presentation of the site. The page entitled ‘Dis and Dat’ features pictures uploaded by subscribers which you can do on the ‘Upload’ page. Read more here: http://www.100eyes.org

Republic of Lakotah
Pine Ridge Indian Reservation, South Dakota
Pine Ridge is home to Wounded Knee, where in 1890 three hundred men, women and children were massacred by the US 7th Calvary as they were being transported to the reservation.
Life in Pine Ridge is hard.
It is the poorest Indian reservation in the United States, with an unemployment of about 80% and almost half of its residents live below the poverty line.
Both the infant mortality and alcoholism rates are the highest in the country, while the life expectancy is the lowest (52 for women and 48 for men). Many lack basic services such as running water, sewer, transportation, telephone, and the lack of health care is among the worst in the country.
Enjoy the series Republic of Lakotah by Hector Emanuel!
Revanche (Revenge), written and directed by Austrian film-maker Götz Spielmann, is one of the best films I have seen recently and probably one of my all-time favourites. It was one of five films nominated for this year’s Best Foreign Language Film at the Academy Awards (although it didn’t win eventually).
Do yourself a favour, lean back and take two minutes to watch the trailer. Also turn on the sound on your computer. It’s funny, the music is great in the trailer, but the actual film is rather quiet with no music at all. In this respect it reminded me of No Country for Old Men (a very different film, though, in many other aspects).
There is much I like about this movie, most is difficult to put in words, but one thing that really thourougly impressed me was the film’s cinematography, stunningly precise and beautiful, truly a visual delight. Here are some stills I grabbed from the DVD.
